$3.6M Project In Elmhurst Delayed; State Explains Why
The improvements, which started two years ago, involve the interchange of Route 83 and Roosevelt Road.

ELMHURST, IL – A $3.6 million project to improve the interchange of Route 83 and Roosevelt Road in Elmhurst, which started two years ago, has been delayed, an official said.
But a state Department of Transportation spokeswoman said this week it should be finished in November.
The work involves improving drainage, building a retaining wall along the westbound Roosevelt Road ramp to northbound Route 83, resurfacing the area, installing new lighting and shoulders, and adding new landscaping, spokeswoman Maria Castaneda said in an email in response to a Patch inquiry.

The work is weather-dependent, so no work has occurred during the winter, she said.
"Additionally, there were several issues with unknown utilities in the area, which caused the project to be delayed," Castaneda said. "The issues have been resolved, and, weather permitting, the lanes are anticipated to reopen in late November, with landscaping completed in the spring."
