ELMHURST, IL – Progressives for Change, a west suburban-based organization, held a rally and march in Elmhurst on Labor Day.

Some 400 people assembled on York Road by City Hall. Most carried home-made signs protesting the Trump administration’s attacks on constitutional rights, Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans’ benefits and the deployment of federal troops to police local communities, according to the organization. Signs read “Healthcare, not Wealth Care,” “Support Workers, not Billionaires”, “Hands Off Veterans’ Services”, among other slogans.

The march went to Glos Park, where there were speakers from the County Board, Addison Township, the DuPage Democratic Party and a labor union representative. After the speeches, the marchers returned to City Hall and carried on their rally. The rally and march were one of many “Workers over Billionaires” Labor Day events staged all over the country.
