Big Elmhurst Road Project Next Summer
A key street is set to be resurfaced, among other improvements.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is planning a major road project on the north side next summer.
The work will involve the resurfacing of North York Street from Crestview to Grand avenues, according to a city memo.
It will also include spot curb and gutter repairs, an additional lane designed for right turns at Belden Avenue, sidewalk repairs, the inclusion of raised medians with landscaping and a mid-block crossing installation with flashing beacons, the memo said.

In 2020, the city received $2.5 million in federal money for the project through the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference. Last summer, the conference earmarked another $350,000 for the project, according to the memo.
All that money is expected to cover 80 percent of the project's costs. The city said it would get the rest from the North York tax increment financing district, which collects the growth in property tax money in its jurisdiction.

The work is set to be bid out later this month. On Monday, a city committee is expected to consider a resolution related to the project.
