Driver Destroys Gravestones, Open Grave Site at Elmhurst Cemetery: Police
The suspect caused the countersinking of stones and destroyed decorations loved ones had left at sites.
Elmhurst police are looking for a suspect who allegedly drove off the road last week and through Elm Lawn Cemetery at 401 E. Lake St., causing massive amounts of damage to part of the property.
Police responded to the scene around 11 a.m. Jan. 26, according to reports, but the complainant they met said the incident had happened sometime between the day before and that morning.
The offender reportedly drove through a specific spot in the graveyard, which is about 200 yards by 100 yards in area. Police were told they drove through the area multiple times, causing direct damage to grave sites.

The damage caused by the car resulted in the countersinking of several gravestones, damage to an open grave site and the destruction of grave site decorations, cops said.
They also found plastic vehicle parts at the scene, noting the driver may have struck an unexpected bump and caused damage to their bumper or air deflector.
