Elmhurst 7th Grade Team Declared World Champions

The team competed in the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament in Kansas City.

ELMHURST, IL – A team from Elmhurst was recently declared World Champions in the Middle Level Improvisational Theater Challenge.

The team is a group of 7th graders from Immaculate Conception Grade School (ICGS) in Elmhurst and competed in the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 21st-25th.

Destination Imagination (DI) is a world-wide STEAM-based competition in which teams compete on a year-long project at the Regional, State, and (if qualifying) Global levels. Each year, more than 150,000 students worldwide participate in DI, and Global Finals represents the pinnacle of their creative journey. This year, qualifying participants from 13 countries and 30+ states competed at the Global Finals in Kansas City. ICGS has participated in DI since 1999.

The 7th grade team's victory marks the first World Championship for the school in its history. The team performed exceptionally well, scoring the second highest points in Improvisational Theater in the 26 year history of the organization. They were the only school from Illinois this year to score within the top three in any category and at any age level.
