Elmhurst Prepares for Friday Night Storm

Sand bags are available in the parking lot of the Public Works Garage for residents to pick up.

Submitted by the City of Elmhurst.

In preparation for anticipated storms Friday evening, the Street Division performed inlet patrol this afternoon.

Crews checked low lying areas, cleared inlets as necessary, and completed sweeping as needed.

Not all inlets require additional storm-day cleaning and not all streets are swept. Please note, Waste Management has been in town over the past week performing a City-wide contract street sweep, so most areas of town have been swept within the past few days.

We encourage residents to check and clear any inlets on their streets prior to the storm. Public Works staff has also placed pre-made street closure signs at the Palmer Drive underpass, in order to post quickly if needed. In addition, signs noting “no outlet” were set at strategic locations to post if North Avenue floods at I-290.

Due to tonight’s forecast of 0.75 inches to 2 inch possible rainfall (2 inch to 3 inch in some areas), a Street Division employee will be monitoring the storm events on site. Staff will monitor the storm and call in additional employees as necessary. The Streets Supervisor is also on call.

Sand bags are available in the parking lot of the Public Works Garage for residents to pick up. There is also a pile of sand, bags, and shovels available for residents to make their own sand bags, should the ready-made supply be depleted.
