ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is poised to study yet another neighborhood's traffic.

On Monday, city staffers are expected to recommend examining the neighborhood generally bounded by St. Charles Road on the north, Spring Road on the east, Madison Street on the south and Salt Creek on the west.

The study also would include the Pick subdivision to the west. It is disconnected from the main study area and is Elmhurst's only residential neighborhood west of Route 83.

Over the last few years, the city has hired a consultant to do neighborhood-by-neighborhood traffic studies. This is a change from its historic approach of reviewing problems at individual intersections.

The city has completed studies for three sections of town and is now working on two others.

Probably the most high-profile study was just east of the neighborhood that is now under consideration. Earlier this month, a split City Council increased the speed limit in a neighborhood over residents' objections, following the consultant's recommendation.

The city is looking to hire its consultant for the other neighborhoods, Rosemont-based KLOA, to study the next one. The price tag is $38,000.

The issue is on the agenda for Monday's meeting of the City Council's public safety committee.
