Lena Cuomo celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family Saturday, Nov. 8, at White Pines Golf Club, 500 W. Jefferson in Bensenville. Cuomo is the matriarch of Cuomo Catering in nearby Northlake. When Cuomo Catering first opened its doors in 1977, they offered their own family's traditional recipes: succulent beef, moist chicken and “one of a kind” baked mostaccioli.
Born Pasqualena Tellone on November 8, 1925, in Chicago, Lena Cuomo has spent a century surrounded by family, faith, and community. She married her beloved husband, Anthony Cuomo, on October 5, 1946, and together they made their home in Bridgeport before settling in Hillside in 1960. There, they raised their three children-David, Sandy and Tom (who runs the catering business today)-in the house they built on Buckthorne Avenue, where Lena lived for an incredible 62 years.
A devoted parishioner of St. Domitilla Church, Cuomo's faith and community spirit have always been at the heart of her life. She and Anthony were active members of several local organizations, including the Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion.
