Man Arrested Near Elmhurst Sentenced to 10 Years for Dealing Cocaine

"There is one less drug dealer out on the streets enriching his life at the expense of others," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said.

A west suburban man has been sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for selling cocaine to an undercover police officer on more than one occasion, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Wednesday.

Alfonso Rodriguez, 23, who’s originally from Addison, was on mandatory supervised release when arrested after he spent time in the IDOC for an illegal gun sale and aggravated battery. Aug. 19 of this year, his three-day trial concluded in three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Rodriguez’s charges were considered more serious than a run-of-the-mill drug dealing case, since he once sold to an officer within 1,000 feet of a school and once within 1,000 feet of a park, the State’s Attorney’s office said in a release.

The sale that solidified his arrest took place Dec. 23 of last year on Michael Ln. in Addison.

“Today’s sentencing sends the message that law enforcement will continue our fight against all illegal narcotics,” Berlin said in the release. “Drug sales continue to plague our streets, but thanks to the efforts of the Addison Police Department and DuMeg, there is one less drug dealer out on the streets enriching his life at the expense of others.”
