Man Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Heroin in the Hospital, Thefts: Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what Elmhurst police have been up to for the past week.

The following items were taken from the Elmhurst police blotter throughout the past week. All arrestees are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Drugs

  • An underage teenager was stopped around midnight Jan. 26 for driving with only one headlight. Cops noticed a strong smell coming from the car and found marijuana in the teen’s possession. They were cited for the drug possession, improper lighting and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
  • Hospital staff at Elmhurst Hospital told police they suspected an admitted patient was using illegal drugs while in their care. Hospital security reportedly found syringes and suspect heroin in the woman’s personal belongings, and police are waiting for lab results before a charge can be made.
  • Oscar Gamez, 20 was arrested for having marijuana in a car with him when police stopped the driver of the car for traffic violations.
  • Brandon Rosario, 20, was arrested for possession of marijuana the evening of Jan. 27 when police stopped his care for a traffic violation.
  • Ronaldo Perez, 18, was stopped by officers on foot patrol when they saw him smoking a joint on the sidewalk outside of Walgreens. He was cited for possession onsite.
  • Alexander J. Weiger, 23, was found holding a blunt to his mouth in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on East First Street. He handed over the blunt and gave police the rest of his marijuana, which was in his car.
  • Jacoby Gipson, 19, was charged with possession of marijuana when police stopped him for speeding Jan. 29.
  • Francis Pestano, 24, was arrested for possession of marijuana when a car he was riding in was stopped by cops Jan. 29.

Theft

  • An Elmhurst resident living in the 100 block of North Haven Road reported to police that an Amazon package had arrived at her apartment building the afternoon of Jan. 26 and that when she went to retrieve it, a package had been opened, was empty and was sitting in the trash.
  • A similar incident occurred when a woman living in the 500 block of West Fay had a package delivered to her front door Jan. 13. When she went to get the package, it was missing.
  • A witness saw a FedEx delivery driver drop off a package on the front porch of an East North End Avenue home, then later saw a suspect described as a black male in his 20’s wearing a red hat, gray jacket and blue jeans get out of a silver car and take the package from the porch.

DUIs

  • William Doran, 49, was stopped by police for sleeping behind the wheel and subsequently arrested for driving drunk. Doran also had open alcohol in his car, according to cops reports.
  • Jason Pecor, 40, was arrested for driving under the influence when police caught him using the wrong lane on Route 83 Jan. 28.
  • Henry Cerdas, 43, was arrested for driving drunk Jan. 29 when he ran a stop sign at Madison and Prospect.

Identity theft

  • A resident living in the 500 block of South Swain told police that between Dec. 29, 2016, and Jan. 9, 2017, someone had transferred money from his line of credit account into his checking account before making several fraudulent transactions. His bank has started an investigation into the matter.
  • A man living in the 600 block of North Kenilworth told police that in a short time between Jan. 25 and Jan. 26, someone had opened four credit card accounts and two cell phone accounts in his name and using his personal information.

Retail theft

  • A suspect described as a black male with long black dreads, a red jacket, tan pants and black gym shoes allegedly walked into an Elmhurst CVS on Jan. 27 and stole four bottles of Kettle One Vodka.
  • Cameron McKinney, 19, of Elmhurst was arrested when he was caught stealing two bottles of alcohol from Jewel-Osco. He admitted to the crime, was charged with felony theft and was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Animal complaint

  • A resident living in the 800 block of North Lombard called police when a neighbor’s dog wouldn’t stop barking for 45 minutes straight. The resident wanted to sign a complaint. The neighbor couldn’t be reached.
