Man Realizes Someone Broke In, Stole His Guns 6 Months After the Crime: Cops

He didn't realize the guns were missing until an officer showed up with a recovered firearm.

An Elmhurst man was surprised when a police officer showed up at his door Jan. 30 with a stolen gun registered in his name — because he never realized his firearms were missing.

The resident, who lives in the 900 block of Stratford Avenue, reported a residential burglary dating all the way back to July of 2016, according to police reports. He told cops he realized his guns were missing when the Hillsdale police officer showed up at his door last weekend after recovering one of them.

The man said he sometimes rents out rooms in his home and that he suspects one of his guests was the thief.
