Neither Cold Nor Dark of Night Can Keep Elmhurst Kids From Santa

Even though it was cold, cold, cold on Thursday, Dec. 5—with temperatures only in the 20s—lots of Elmhurst families bundled up and headed over to Wilder Park for Elmhurst Park District's annual tree lighting. Each of the dozens of trees was sponsored and decorated by a different group—Scouts, church groups, schools and other organizations all got into the act.

Kelly Porter, program director at Bethel Learning Center, was there with families from Bethel. The kids searched for the ornaments they had made, had some hot chocolate, saw Santa and his reindeer, and sang and danced in the park, Porter said.

Everybody counted down to see the trees light up the whole park.

"It was a magical night, and another example of why Elmhurst is such a great place to raise a family!" Porter said.
