See Elmhurst Video: Car Burglary Suspects Target Unlocked Cars

Video footage showed five suspects participating in burglaries in a local neighborhood, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Suspects burglarized cars early Tuesday morning in an Elmhurst neighborhood, police said in a news release.

About 4 a.m., an Elmhurst community service officer on patrol came upon a white Kia Stinger near Holly Avenue and May Street, with the driver then speeding away east on Interstate 290, police said.

Officers found that the suspects had entered four unlocked cars parked outside.

A resident with a locked car in a driveway gave police video showing four suspects running through the neighborhood checking for unlocked cars, with another driving the getaway car, police said.

Police said they believe the Kia Stinger had no license plates and matched the description of a car recently stolen in Chicago.

Police reminded residents to lock their car doors and remove valuables. Car burglars don't want to draw attention, so they check for unlocked cars, police said.
