ELMHURST, IL – Two Elmhurst aldermen say safety has become an issue at the northside intersection of Michigan Street and Gladys Avenue.

"Neighbors have become increasingly concerned about traffic speeds, disregard for current traffic controls, and especially in the last few months, several accidents, some severe," Ward 3 aldermen Chris Jensen and Dannee Polomsky said in a statement Thursday.

They requested a city committee examine what is needed at the intersection, including the possibility of a four-way stop.

Now, Gladys has stop signs. Houses are on the east side of Michigan, with businesses on the other.

On Monday, the City Council plans to vote on whether to refer the matter to the city's Public Safety Committee. Such requests for reviews are virtually always approved.
