Thief Tries to Sell Stolen Phone to Undercover Cop: Police

He was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property.

Someone reported he lost his iPhone 6 on Sept. 15 at 7-Eleven on East First Street in Elmhurst, and he was contacted by a man who asked for a $100 finder’s fee to return the phone.

An undercover Elmhurst police officer met with the phone finder, who refused to return the phone, according to police

The officer paid the man $100, and the phone was returned.

Daryl Brown, age 42 of the 700 block of West Liberty in Wheaton, was arrested and charged with theft of lost or mislaid property. He was released.
