Watch Out for Door-to-Door Salesmen Who Say They Work for Elmhurst: Cops
Many solicitors have been walking around neighborhoods with false information, police say.
Elmhurst police issued a warning Monday advising residents against taking the time to speak with uncertified solicitors from energy companies, which has been a problem as of late, according to a police release.
City officials were recently informed that solicitors from energy companies have been going door-to-door asking to talk to residents on behalf of the city. While solicitors can be certified by the City of Elmhurst, and must be to sell products in Elmhurst, this hasn't been the case.
"If they do have a permit, they should be displaying a solicitor badge from the City of Elmhurst," the release reads. "The fact that an organization has been issued [a] solicitor's permit does not constitute an endorsement of the organization by the City of Elmhurst."

Solicitors can apply for badges at the city clerk's office. After a background check, they will receive a photo ID that must be visible at all times they're selling or going door to door.
The Elmhurst Police Department urges anyone who notices false solicitors to call 911 immediately so that cops can catch the culprit while they're still in the area.
