170+ Cited During Evanston Speeding Campaign

Throughout July, three people were arrested and more than 170 were cited for various traffic violations.

EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Police Department cited 177 people during a traffic safety campaign that targeted speeding that took place throughout July.

During the time period, police arrested three people for license violations and issued 136 speeding citations.

"We continue to urge all drivers traveling through our community to slow down, obey speed limits and drive responsibly," said Sergeant Jeff Faison. "Every decision you make behind the wheel matters — it's truly not a game."

Police issued citations for the following:

  • 136 speeding citations
  • 2 misdemeanor speeding citations
  • 6 seatbelt citations
  • 1 child car seat citation
  • 5 distracted driving citations
  • 1 revoked license arrest
  • 2 no valid license arrest
  • 10 no insurance citations
  • 14 other citations

Evanston police joined forces with the Illinois Department of Transportation for its "It's Not A game" initiative, which sheds light on the consequences of dangerous driving. Enforcement was funded by federal safety dollars administered by IDOT.
