EVANSTON, IL — A traffic stop led to the arrests of two people and the recovery of a handgun, cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms, according to the Evanston Police Department.

Police pulled over a white Kia Optima Wednesday night as it travelled westbound on Howard Street at Asbury Avenue without its headlights on. When officers approached the driver, identified as Stephan Flood, they saw what appeared to be part of a rifle.

"Flood told officers the part was for an airsoft rifle, and he gave them consent to confirm it, which they did," EPD said in a statement.
