2 Evanston Township High School Grads Win National Merit Scholarships
Two recent ETHS graduates are set to receive college-sponsored National Merit scholarships for up to four years of undergraduate study.

EVANSTON, IL — Two recent Evanston Township High School graduates were named among the final group of 2022 National Merit Scholars Monday.
Kai K. Li-Caldwell and George N. O'Carroll were each awarded college-sponsored scholarships from the universities they plan to attend in the fall, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Li-Caldwell, who plans to pursue a career in the field of materials engineering, received a scholarship to Iowa State University in Ames.

O'Carroll, who plans to pursue a computer science career, received a scholarship to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Their college-sponsored scholarships provide for up to $2,000 annually for up to four years of study at the respective institutions.

The pair joins two other Evanston Township High School students who were named National Merit scholars and awarded $2,500 cash scholarships earlier this year.

The Evanston students joins more than 7,200 incoming college freshmen who will receive scholarships worth nearly $28 million from this year's program, which has been operated by Evanston-based nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corporation for the past 67 years.
The nonprofit awards about 4,000 college-sponsored scholarships, 2,500 cash scholarships paid out of its own funds and about 1,000 corporate-sponsored scholarships, often restricted to families of employees.
Last fall, 13 students from ETHS, two from Beacon Academy and one from Roycemore School were named semifinalists in program.
