3 Teens Shot, 1 Fatally On Evanston Beach: Police

Jacquis Irby, 18, of Skokie was fatally wounded while a 15-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting police said wasn't random.

EVANSTON, IL — Three men were shot, including one fatally, at an Evanston beach on Wednesday night in an incident police said wasn't random and that has police searching for suspects on Thursday morning.

The shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. at Clark Street Beach on Sheridan Road, just south of Northwestern's campus, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the 18-year-old man who was shot and killed as Jacquis Irby, 18, of the 8500 block of Niles Center Rd. in Skokie.

The two other shooting victims, both 15, have not been identified. One of the victims remains in critical condition while the other sustained minor injuries in the incident, police said. Police said on Thursday that the victims — all of whom are from Skokie — and the suspects all knew one another.

Police were searching for suspects who authorities said traveled toward campus on Sheridan Road in a sedan. Police said that the two shooting victims were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

On Thursday morning, Evanston police said Sheridan Road was open and that investigators had cleared the crime scene after portions of the park and path around Clark Street Beach were closed to the public. Police announced late Monday morning that both the park and the path had been reopened.
