240+ Cited During Evanston Traffic Safety Campaign

During the Fourth of July enforcement period, three people were arrested and more than 240 were cited for various traffic violations.

EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Police Department cited 246 people during the recent Fourth of July traffic safety campaign period that lasted from June 20 to July 7.

During the time period, police arrested three people for impaired driving and issued 67 seat belt citations.

"Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to get drunk, high and drugged drivers off our roads and encourage seat belt use," EPD said in a statement.

Additionally, police issued citations for the following:

  • 1 child safety restraint citation
  • 14 uninsured motorist citations
  • 21 speeding citations
  • 25 stop sign violation citations
  • 44 distracted driving citations
  • 71 assorted moving and non-moving citations

Evanston police joined forces with more than 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies that participated in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns. The campaigns are funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
