4 Teens Charged with Murder, Attempted Murder of 2 Skokie 17 Year Olds

Maxwell Gadau was shot to death and a 17-year-old girl hospitalized in the Sept. 28 shooting. Charged are 3 Chicago teens and 1 from Skokie.

The following was sent out by the Skokie Police Department on Sunday:

On Sunday, September 28, 2014, at approximately 9:41 p.m., Skokie Police Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of shots fired in the 9200 block of Kedvale Avenue, Skokie, Illinois. Subsequently, a 17-year-old male identified as Maxwell L. Gadau and 17-year-old female juvenile, both of Skokie, were found with gunshot wounds. Gadau was pronounced dead and the female juvenile remains hospitalized.

Today, criminal charges have been filed against the following four individuals in connection with this crime:

  1. Dzevad Avdic, 19 years of age, of 5936 S. Honore, Chicago, IL.
  2. Myles Hughes, 19 years of age, of 4270 W. 81st Street, Chicago, IL.
  3. Jeremy Ly, 19 years of age, of 8150 Lowell, Skokie, IL.
  4. Nicholas Smith, 19 years of age, of 3850 W. 84th Street, Chicago, IL.

All four individuals have been arrested, are in police custody and have been charged with the First Degree Murder of Maxwell Gadau and with the Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery of the 17-year-old female in the same case.

Hughes, Ly and Smith will be brought before a Cook County bond judge on Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Avdic will be brought before a Cook County bond judge on Monday, October 6, 2014.

The quick resolution to this case was brought about by the dedication, commitment and professionalism of the men and women of the Skokie Police Department and North Regional Major Crimes Task Force. In addition, the full cooperation and assistance of the Chicago Police Department was critical to this investigation.

A statement will be provided at the Skokie Police Department on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.

The public is reminded that neither a complaint nor an indictment is evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
