5 Arrested, 165 Cited During Labor Day Safety Campaign
During the Labor Day enforcement period, five people were arrested and more than 160 were cited for various traffic violations.
EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Police Department issued 165 citations and arrested five people during the recent Labor Day traffic safety campaign period that lasted from Aug. 15 to Sept. 2.
During the time period, police arrested two people for impaired driving, three people for driving with a suspended license and issued 69 seat belt citations.
“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” said Sergeant Jeff Faison.

Additionally, police issued citations for the following:
- 5 child safety restraint citation
- 10 uninsured motorist citations
- 26 speeding citations
- 20 distracted driving citations
- 35 assorted moving and non-moving citations
Evanston police joined forces with more than 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies that participated in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns. The campaigns are funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
