The fire was reported in the 1700 block of Hartrey Street and despite the report of no flames from the street, heavy smoke was found inside.

EVANSTON, IL — Nine people were displaced after a house fire was reported at a multi-family residence at a Hartrey Street home, city officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the home — located in the 1700 block of Hartrey — within minutes of the fire being reported at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. First responders reported seeing nothing showing from the street. Upon entry to the home, however, moderate smoke and fire conditions were noticed on the second floor, fire officials said.
The response was immediately upgraded to a working Fire, fire officials said, which required additional resources to be called to the scene to assist with on-scene operations and fire investigation.
