Carol K. Kain nee Knurr, age, 79.
Beloved wife of Howard I. Kain. Loving mother of Steven Kain, and Jon (Pam) Kain. Proud grandmother of Alex Kain.
Carol was born on July 15, 1944, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was the daughter of Herman Knurr and Mary Gidansky Knurr, both Holocaust survivors. She enjoyed many years as a Docent at the Illinois Holocaust Memorial Museum and as a second-generation speaker.Carol received her Bachelor of Arts from Sophie Newcomb College and her Master of Arts in the field of Social Work from the University of Chicago.

It was between her first and second years at the U of C that she met her future husband Howard, who was also studying for his Masters. They were married for more than 56 years. Carol also enjoyed traveling, especially to England, France, Spain and Italy. She was a wonderful cook, hosting many large family dinners over the years. She was particularly adept at counted cross stitching, completing replicas of several of the paintings of the Great Masters. Her career as a medical social worker included managing the department at Glenbrook Hospital, discharge planning at Rush North Shore, and consulting.
