Christmas Day Fire Displaces Evanston Family

The family is being helped by relatives.

EVANSTON, IL — A family was uninjured but has been displaced from their home following an early morning Christmas fire in Evanston, according to the Evanston Fire Department.

According to a press release, firefighters responded to the 1700 block of Brown Avenue around 3:51 a.m. for the report of a fire in a single-family home. All residents had evacuated the home before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and moderate fire conditions in the back of the building.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of the initial call, according to the press release.

Three residents were taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation where they were treated and released.

The family was displaced and is being helped by relatives. The fire remains under investigation.
