City Releases List of Trees Slated for Removal

Forestry staff will be cutting down dozens of trees infested with Emerald ash borer in Evanston this spring, according to a release from the city.
The trees are located in parks and parkway throughout the city, and residents can see which trees are slated for removal by ward on the city website. Forestry staff will cut down the trees with the worst infestations first, according to the city.
Members of the forestry division are also working to remove more than 600 stumps around the city, from trees that were taken down earlier this year or late last year. It will take approximately two years to replace each tree cut down.

"This is directly due to the removal of far more trees than staff can plant on an annual basis," the release explains. "This has been the case since 2011, so the planting list continues to grow each year."
"The Forestry Division anticipates this trend to continue for the foreseeable future due to the exponential spread of EAB."
