Double Shooting On Dempster Street In Evanston, No One In Custody

Two gunshot wound victims were transported to area hospitals, the suspect is still at large and police asked the public for tips.

EVANSTON, IL — Two men survived gunshot wounds Monday night in Evanston, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Dempster Street around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

After they found a pair of gunshot victims, a 41-year-old Evanston man and a 50-year-old Evanston man, the Evanston Fire Department took both to local hospitals.

Both were in stable condition at hospital. No one is in custody in connection with the shooting.

The double shooting prompted a large police presence, and officers asked the public to avoid the area.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine if it was a single shooter, what preceded the gunfire or any possible motives or suspects.

The streets were reopened to traffic prior to 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Evanston police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the department.

Monday night's shooting is the first in Evanston in nearly three months, following a May shooting near Foster Field that wounded a 20-year-old man.
