Emergency Repairs To Collapsed Sewer Line Shutter Evanston Library

The main library at 1703 Orrington Ave. is expected to be closed through Friday for emergency repairs, library officials said.

EVANSTON, IL — A collapsed sewer line forced the closure of the main branch of the Evanston Public Library Wednesday.

The building at 1703 Orrington Ave. is expected to remain closed through Friday for emergency repairs, library officials said.

Cleanup work began inside the library Wednesday afternoon, and residents were asked to expect closures in one and and the sidewalk along Church Street through Friday.

No materials on hold at the main branch will be available until further notice, and all in-person programming at the library has been canceled through Friday, library officials said.

The library's Robert Crown Branch, 1801 Main St., remained open with no interruption to service.

Patrons seeking to return materials can drop them off at book drops at the main library, Robert Crown Branch, inside the Fleetwood Jourdain Center and on Prairie Avenue near Central Street.
