Evanston Artisan Butcher Shop Opening Wednesday

Homestead Meats & Deli, an artisan butcher shop committed to locally sourced products, plans to open at 1305 Chicago Avenue Wednesday, according to the shop’s Facebook page.

Owner Ehran Ostrreicher is mainly self-taught, though he’s worked as a butcher at City Provisions in Lincoln Square deli and Artisanal Wilmette. He grew up in an Austrian family in Israel, and says he carries with him the European tradition of using every part of the animal and buying meats from small shops that make their products on-site.

As a stay-home-dad, he said he uses his kids and their friends as his main taste testers.

“They have honest, fast reactions,” he told Patch for a profile this winter.
