Evanston Dedicates New Lorraine H. Morton City Hall

Evanston's city offices completed the move to downtown at the end of March.

EVANSTON, IL — The City of Evanston and officials celebrated the official opening of the Lorraine H. Morton City Hall on Monday with a dedication ceremony.

City Hall moved from its previous location at 2100 Ridge Avenue, which is now no longer in service, and completed the relocation at the end of March.

“Our community is now positioned to benefit from a more streamlined approach to accessing services. I extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff for their hard work in facilitating this transition, said City Manager Luke Stowe. “I look forward to building upon our predecessors' legacies while enhancing our community's vibrancy. As public servants, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing effective and efficient services to all."

The first floor of City Hall is where the customer service center, which includes adjudication, permitting and the collector's office. Public facing offices are on the second floor, including:

  • the council chambers;
  • the city clerk's office;
  • the mayor's office;
  • State Representative Robyn Gabel's office,
  • the tax assessor's office;
  • and the Health and Human Services Department.

“Moving to 909 Davis Street will benefit our staff, our downtown, our service delivery, and our taxpayers,” said Mayor Daniel Biss. “I’m thrilled that we’re naming this facility after Lorraine Morton, an Evanston giant whose unifying and optimistic leadership style holds profound lessons for all of us.”

In conjunction with the dedication of City Hall, officials also commemorated the Lorraine H. Morton Mural Wall.The mural was painted in 2024 by Chicago artist Max Sansing and pays tribute to the former mayor and her legacy.
