Before issuing a pass, city officials are required by Cook County ordinance to verify that the pets' vaccinations are up to date.

Dog owners must complete a vaccination form and provide proof of vaccinations for about half a dozen ailments, as well as proof that a veterinarian’s office had completed a negative fecal test for internal parasites within the prior year.

Beach passes are free for residents of the 60201 and 60202 ZIP codes. Non-residents must pay $200 for their first dog and $75 for a second dog.

All Evanston residents are separately required to purchase a pet license, which can be purchased online or in-person at the City Collector's Office in the Civic Center. Licenses cost $10 for fixed pets and $15 for unaltered ones.

Starting March 1, city staff will change the code to the gate at the dog beach to a new combination.

"In the case where a 2023 pass holder attempts to enter," staff announced, "access will not be possible until the 2024 pass is renewed."
