Evanston Man Accidently Shoots Self in Head

The 31 year old died from his injuries.

A 31-year-old Evanston man accidentally shot himself in the head with a shotgun Sunday night, police said. He died from his injuries.

Police say the man was in his apartment in the 800 block of Howard Street with friends and began showing off his shotgun. His friends told him to put it away. Instead, the man ejected two or three rounds, then held the shotgun to his cheek and told his friends it was empty. He pulled the trigger, shooting himself in the head.

Police arrived around 9:45 p.m. The man was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives interviewed the friends in the apartment who all gave a consistent account of what happened, police said. The victim’s body and evidence at the scene corroborated their accounts.

The Evanston Review is identifying the man as Eric Zyzanski.
