Evanston Man Dies After Being Ejected From SUV In One-Car I-94 Crash

The 20-year-old was pronounced dead Tuesday evening at Highland Park Hospital after a rollover crash on the Edens Spur, authorities said.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The motorist who died from injuries he suffered Tuesday when he was ejected from an SUV after driving it off Interstate 94 and into a guardrail has been identified by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Anthony Jimenez, 20, was alone in the 2007 Cadillac he was driving shortly before 6 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Edens Spur, authorities said.

"For unknown reasons, [Jimenez] veered onto the right shoulder and struck the guardrail causing the vehicle to roll," according to state police.

Jimenez was thrown out of his SUV, according to state police and the coroner's office, neither of which specified if he had been wearing a seat belt.

Emergency personnel rushed Jimenez to the emergency room at Highland Park Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, according to a statement from the coroner's office, which conducted an autopsy Wednesday.

"Preliminary results indicate that Mr. Jimenez died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash," it said. "The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police."
