Mom Grieves for Son Shot in Basement Laundry Room

Star Paramore's body was found in the basement of his Harvard Terrace apartment building in Evanston. Mom tells NBC: "He's a praying kid."

EVANSTON, IL — A few days ago, Star Paramore told his mom he wanted to move to California because he didn't feel safe here anymore: "This place is just becoming too violent.

On Friday night, he was found dead in the laundry room of the family's Evanston apartment building, shot in the head. Paramore was 19.

Police are conducting a death investigation. His body was found at 5:35 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Harvard Terrace. Police crime-scene investigators were on scene for much of Friday night and Saturday morning.

Parmore's mom, Janet McEwan, spoke to NBC 5 Chicago on Saturday.

"He prays. He's a praying kid," McEwan said. "That's the kind of kid I have and that's the kind of home I have. That's what's keeping me alive and keeping me strong that I can even stand up here and talk to you."
