The daughter of the late Benjamin and Olive Karrer, of Port Huron, Michigan, and sister to the late Katherine Sheridan, Louise Weil, and Madeline Simpson, she was earned her undergraduate degree at Nazareth College, Kalamazoo, Mich., and practiced for Catholic Charities in Detroit, Michigan and Washington, DC. before coming to Chicago in 1958. At Loyola University, she was the director of field work for the School of Social Work.
