Evanston Obituary: Marina Adams, 46

The ETHS alum used to be Willy the Wildkit at home basketball games. She lived in Winnetka with her husband and three daughters.

The following obituary is from Donnellan Family Funeral Services:

Marina Adams nee Markovich, age 46 of Winnetka. Beloved wife of Joseph Adams; incredibly loving and devoted mother of Arabella, Vivienne, and Bridget; dutiful daughter of Mirjana and the late Radmilo Markovich.

Marina was born in Evanston, Illinois of parents that each separately emigrated from the former Yugolsavia. That family background, along with a high school year abroad in Brazil, provided Marina with a lifelong interest in all things international. In addition to English, Marina spoke fluent Serbian, Spanish and Portuguese.

In 1986, Marina graduated from Evanston Township High School (where, among other things, she was “Willy the Wildkit” at home basketball games). In 1990, Marina graduated from the University of Chicago with dual majors in Economics and Latin American Civilization. At UChicago, she would meet her future husband, Joe (although Joe failed, repeatedly, to make much of an impression on Marina at the time). After UChicago, Marina obtained her MBA and her JD from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1996, and continued her interest in international business working in Mexico City, New York City and Miami.

Finally worn down by Joe, the two were married in Chicago in May, 1996. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Winnetka and started their family where they were blessed with three absolutely wonderful daughters. Those daughters have been made all the more wonderful by Marina’s unbounded love for them and Marina’s relentless desire to make her time with the girls meaningful while at the same time as “normal” as possible as Marina battled cancer with tremendous courage and grace for so many years.

Marina’s infectious smile and laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
