Evanston Search Warrant Leads to Drug, Handgun Arrest

The Skokie man had nearly 50 grams of marijuana and the weapon, police said.

Evanston police executed a search warrant in Skokie early Tuesday morning and arrested a man for possession of nearly 50 grams of marijuana, as well as a handgun with extended magazines, police said.

Police executed the search warrant just after 6 a.m. in the 4900 block of Hull St. Devon Matthews, 20, of the same block, was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated firearm possession without a valid FOID, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, and unlawful possession of cannabis, all felonies, as well as possession of ammunition without a valid FOID and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID, both misdemeanors.

He is due in court Sept. 11.
