Then, around noon on Dec. 1, officers were dispatched to multiple calls of gunfire in the block where Overton lives.
Witnesses told police a man fired several rounds at another individual, according to police. Officers then found used shell casings in the street and the west alley of the 1700 block of Darrow Avenue.
No people were struck by the gunfire, but a car parked in a church lot at 1700 Darrow Avenue was hit by a bullet, shattering its window.
Police said Overton was identified as the prime suspect in both incidents.
On the afternoon of Dec. 3, police found the 19-year-old in the 1600 block of Emerson Street. Police said he tried to run away, but officers caught up to him in the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue.
During the chase, Overton ditched a Glock 9 mm handgun and struck an officer in the chin with his forearm before being taken into custody, police said.
On Dec. 6, Evanston police carried out a court-authorized search of a home in Overton's block with the help of the suburban SWAT team, Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, or NIPAS.
Prosecutors approved four felony charges against Overton following a review of the investigations: armed robbery in connection with the Nov. 11 incident, aggravated discharge of a firearm from Dec. 1 and two charges stemming from the Dec. 3 arrest — aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery to a police officer.
The Evanston Police Department continues to investigate the robbery and shooting and is seeking additional information, evidence or video related to the incidents.
Overton is next scheduled to appear in court on the morning of Dec. 30.
