Evanston Woman, 29, Killed In Crash On Icy Road: Police
Three other people, including a 5-year-old boy and 8-month-old girl, sustained injuries in the collision in Gurnee Sunday night.
GURNEE, IL — One person is dead and three others have been hospitalized — including a woman and two young children — following a collision in Gurnee Sunday night, police said.
The crash happened at about 9 p.m. on November 9 on Grand Avenue over Interstate 94 when a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban heading west on Grand hit a patch of ice while switching lanes, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.
The sports utility vehicle lost control, crossed over the median and entered the eastbound lanes of traffic before colliding head-on with a 2007 Ford Focus traveling east on Grand, according to police.

The impact forced the Ford Focus off the road and into a ditch. Authorities pronounced the driver of the Ford Focus, a 29-year-old Evanston woman, dead at the scene.
Passengers in the car included a 29-year-old Waukegan woman and her 5-year-old son and 8-month-old daughter. Emergency crews transported all of them to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision, according to the news release.

Police did not have any updates on the conditions of the passengers in the Focus as of Monday morning, authorities said.
No one in the Chevrolet Suburban sustained any injuries, police said.
Debris from the crash also hit a Toyota Highlander headed east on Grand Avenue. The vehicle sustained a flat tire but no one in the Highlander reported any injuries, according to a news release.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
