EVANSTON, IL — A kitchen fire at Old Neighborhood Grill Tuesday evening quickly required an emergency response after restaurant staff could not contain the flames, according to city officials.

Evanston fire crews were dispatched to the restaurant on the 2900 block of Central Street at around 5 p.m. Workers told firefighters the fire began behind a stove and was filling up the kitchen area with smoke.

Due to the amount of personnel required to extinguish the flames, authorities called in assistance from neighboring fire departments to help cover other emergencies in the Evanston area.
