There's lots going on at the Evanston Public Library this week, including two free movie screenings. Mark your calendar for these events: 

Bookmaking Workshop for Teens
4-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, the Loft at the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave."Based on the inquiry questions of ‘where are you from?’ and ‘where are you going?’ we will create origami box books which use maps to explore our personal stories."

Discussion of Storm Kings
7-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, Seminar Room (3rd Floor), Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave."Lee Sandlin explores America’s fascination with and unique relationship to tornadoes, vividly describing some of the most devastating storms in America’s history (including the Peshtigo “fire tornado,” whose deadly path of destruction was left encased in glass. Join us as we discuss Lee Sandlin's weather epic: Storm Kings."

Artbot Activity for Kids
4-5 p.m. Wednesday, July 32, Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room, Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
"Learn how to make a robot that colors at this great hands on event for kindergartens, 1st graders, 2nd graders and their parents/guardians. Kids will figure out how to use a motor from an electric toothbrush, a plastic cup and markers to make their own ArtBot at this Maker Corps event. Please register. Space is Limited."

Free Screening of Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Squishy Circuits for Kids
2:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room, Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
"If you have ever wondered how circuits, motors and electricity works - then this is the program for you! Using playdough, a power source, LEDs wires and more you'll be able to learn how circuits work and make awesome play dough creations - like pigs with light up eyes or a house that spins with lights in the windows and more! Kindergarten- second grade. A Maker Corps Program. Please register!"

Chess Night For All Ages
7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
"The library hosts an open, public chess night for all ages, chess sets supplied. "Go load up on summer reading, play a few games of chess, make some new friends (and meet up with old ones), enjoy the air conditioning."

Free Screening of Admission

Auditions for Teen Theatre Production of The Beast
4 p.m. Sunday, August 4, the Loft, Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
"This fall, the Loft at the Evanston Public Library will produce a teen theatre production of THE BEAST by Walter Dean Myers in memory of Dajae ColemanTHE BEAST was one of four books Dajae checked out from his school library the day before he died. Find hundreds of books, audiobooks, large print books, movies and music for sale at bargain basement prices. Purchases support the Evanston Public Library. Hours are as follows:

  • Friday, August 9, 10 am to 5:30 pm (Early Bird Fee: $5, 10 am to Noon)
  • Saturday, August 10, 10 am to 5:30 pm
  • Sunday, August 11, 12 pm to 5:30 pm (All books half-price)
