Investigators: Evanston Man Recorded 15-Year-Old Girl While She Showered

A local man is facing charges after reportedly filming a young girl in the shower.

An Evanston man is accused of using his cellphone to videotape a 15-year-old girl while she was showering in his home.

Police say Carlos Martinez, 36, of the 1800 block of Brown Avenue, propped a phone within view of the shower on Jan. 20 to capture the footage, according to The Chicago Tribune. He faces one felony count of unlawful recording of a minor.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the charge this week after an investigation that included a subpoena and search warrants for several possible devices that could have been used for recording. The young girl saw the phone, police said, and told a relative about the incident. She had reportedly been visiting her sister, who was at Martinez's home.
