Jalisco in Evanston

Hear the Mariachi group Mexico Vive, watch folkloric and contemporary dancers and check out the works of artisans from Mexico during a free celebration of the state of Jalisco, Mexico.
Jazz, Blues and Gospel at Noyes Cultural Arts Center
7 p.m. Friday Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31, Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St.
The Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre’s summer season ends with two concerts at Noyes Cultural Arts Center Jazz bass player Marlene Rosenberg and Delta bluesman Chainsaw Dupont perform on Friday, while Saturday’s performance showcases some local gospel singers conducted by Rev. Kenneth Cherry. $15 at the door or $12 in advance at the Noyes Center box office (847-448-8260).
Neighborhood Yard Sale

Pick up furniture, jewelry and more at this annual neighborhood yard sale. This year, one person is even selling off her antique bottle collection.

The Taming of the Shrew
3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, at Ingraham Park, 2100 Ridge Ave.
There are just two weeks left to catch Muse of Fire Theatre Company’s free outdoor production of The Taming of the Shrew. Bring a picnic blanket or chairs; all ages welcome.
Shared Streets Event
12-5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, Dempster Street at Chicago Avenue
Part of ten ‘Evanston 150’ initiatives for the city’s sesquicentennial, the Shared Street event will close down two blocks of Dempster Street for booths offering music, art, dance, food, and more. For a list of participants, visit the Shared Streets website.
