Northwestern Gets Top Rating For LGBT-Friendliness
A new college rankings services compares universities based on how supportive they are of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.

Northwestern University got 5 out of 5 stars for being LGBT-friendly in a recent ranking of universities around the country.
The nonprofit Campus Pride ranks universities around the country based on how supportive the environment is for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, and breaks those rankings down further into multiple categories.
Northwestern’s strengths are its LGBT support and institutional commitment, LGBT academic life, LGBT student life, LGBT campus safety and LGBT counseling and health, according to the website. The university got five out of five stars in each of those categories.

Northwestern’s lowest category ranking was three and a half out of five stars, for LGBT housing and residence life.
Other Midwestern universities that got a five out of five overall ranking include the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Minnesota, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Oberlin College, Carleton College, Macalester College, University of Minnesota-Duluth, Case Western Reserve University and Indiana University.
