Pedestrian Dead After Being Hit By Car While Crossing Central Street

The 60-year-old Lincolnwood woman was pronounced dead Tuesday night at Evanston Hospital, authorities said.

EVANSTON, IL — A pedestrian was fatally struck while crossing the street in Evanston Tuesday night, authorities said.

Rabia Ahmad, 60, of Lincolnwood, was crossing the 1300 block of Central Street from north to south in the middle of the block around 9:30 p.m. when she was struck by an eastbound Toyota Rav4, according to an Evanston police spokesperson.

Ahmad was taken to the nearby NorthShore University Evanston Hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 11 p.m.

The driver of the car, a 65-year-old Skokie man, stayed on scene and has cooperated with the investigation. He did not appear impaired and submitted to all requested drug and alcohol tests, according to police.

The NORTAF Major Crash Assistance Team has assisted Evanston police with the investigation, and anyone with information about this incident was asked to contact the Evanston Police Traffic Bureau at 847-866-5079.
