Price Changeup For Ex-Cub Yu Darvish's Lakefront Mansion Offers Save Opportunity
The former Chicago Cub pitcher cut the asking price of his Evanston property, which now include his No. 11 jersey number.

EVANSTON, IL — After potential buyers balked at the price tag placed on his Evanston property, a former Chicago Cubs pitcher delivered a changeup, dropping the asking price on his lakefront mansion by more than a quarter-million dollars.
Darvish, now of the San Diego Padres and his wife, Seiko, are now asking $4,995,011 for the Kedzie Street home they listed in October 2022 for $5.75 million. Its price tag now includes Darvish's jersey number — No. 11.
The 5,865-square-foot home includes six bedrooms, four full and two half bathrooms on a double lot with more than 150 feet of shoreline and the "only deep-water dock in Evanston," according to its listing from Pam MacPherson of @properties Christie's International Real Estate.

"All of the luxury only the most discerning buyer can appreciate but with the flexibility and functionality for everyday living and entertaining," it said.
Darvish and his wife, a world championship-winning wrestler, purchased the property for $4.55 million in May 2018, shortly after he signed a six-year, $126 million contract with the Cubs.

They then became embroiled in a fence-related dispute leading to a lawsuit from a neighbor, which was later settled confidentially in 2020.
Darvish had a difficult start to his Cubs career but improved with time and earned a runner-up in the voting for the 2020 National League Cy Young Award for best pitcher before the Chicago front office shipped him to San Diego as part of a seven-player deal in December 2020.
Darvish's broker is not the first to incorporate a jersey number into the asking price of a famous athlete's home. Michael Jordan's Highland Park house, initially listed at $29 million in 2012, was in 2015 relisted at $14,855,000, with its individual digits adding up to his jersey number of 23. It remains unsold.
