Report Of Gunfire On Northwestern's Evanston Campus, No One Injured
University officials gave the all clear about an hour after an "active threat" alert Sunday instructed people to "run, hide, fight."

EVANSTON, IL — Northwestern University officials issued an active threat alert Sunday night following a report of gunfire on their Evanston campus.
Shortly before 11 p.m., a message to the university community instructed people to "run, hide, fight."
Members of the university's private security force were sent to the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music, 70 Arts Circle Drive, where were visible evidence markers at the scene. Evanston police officers responded to assist university security personnel.

Nearly an hour after the initial alert, an "all clear" was issued. University officials said they did not find anyone injured.
Last year, the university issued a similar alert for its downtown Chicago campus after a woman reportedly pulled out a gun and shot into the air in the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue in November.

And following the April 2023 triple shooting at Clark Street Beach in Evanston that left one teenager dead and wounded his two brothers, it took university officials 30 minutes to issue a shelter-in-place order and more than an hour to lift it.
