Scammers Posing As Evanston Staff Send Payment Requests To Residents
The City of Evanston has issued an urgent fraud warning after receiving multiple reports of scam attempts.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston officials have issued an urgent fraud alert after receiving many reports of scammers posing as city staff to request payments from residents.
Community members have reported receiving communications from the scammers, who attempt to collect personal information for payment purposes. They usually include requests for immediate payment for permitting services or threats of final action on behalf of commissioners.

- The city will never demand payment over the phone, at the door or through email correspondence.
- City employees will always present identification when conducting outreach.
- Any email that is not from a @cityofevanston.org address is not from an official source.
“We want our community to stay vigilant,” said City Manager Luke Stowe. “Scammers continue to evolve their tactics, but by staying informed and cautious, residents can help protect themselves and their families.”
