Shooters Caught On Video Firing Guns In Evanston Neighborhood: Police

Evanston police arrested a woman believed to be involved in a shots-fired incident in a residential neighborhood last month.

EVANSTON, IL — A woman who is believed to be involved in a no-injury shooting in an Evanston neighborhood last month was arrested Tuesday, according to police.

The Evanston Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 2300 block of Foster Street on June 22 at 6:651 a.m. Investigation into the incident revealed that three masked suspects walking in the area shot at least three parked vehicles and one residence.

The investigation also produced video footage of the group firing handguns and fleeing on foot. Police recovered 23 shell casings, as well as a pistol-mounted flashlight that appeared to have separated from a handgun.

Following additional investigation into the identities of the individuals involved, police identified 31-year-old Evanston resident Darmia Norris as a suspect for her alleged involvement in facilitating the participation of the shooters in this case.

The three shooters remain at large and the firearms used have not been found, police said.

Officers located and arrested Norris Tuesday afternoon in the 1600 block of Foster Street. Additional investigation occurred following Norris' arrest and the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved a felony charge of aggravated discharge of a weapon based on her involvement in the case.

Norris is not in custody at this time and has an initial hearing scheduled for Friday in the Skokie Courthouse.
